The first version of NOD32 - called NOD-ICE - was created in 1987 by Miroslav Trnka and Peter Pasko when computer viruses were becoming increasingly prevalent.
Initially the program gained popularity with IT workers in Eastern European countries, as ESET was based in Slovakia. Though the program's abbreviation was originally pronounced as individual letters, recent worldwide use of the program has led to the more common single-word pronunciation, sounding like the English word nod.[1] The company reached its 6000th update to virus definitions on March 30, 2011.
The acronym NOD stands for Nemocnica na Okraji Disku ("Hospital at the end of the disk"), a pun related to the Czechoslovak medical drama series Nemocnice na okraji města (Hospital at the End of the City).

[edit] Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange Server

On March 10, 2010 ESET released ESET Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange Server, which contains both antimalware and antispam modules.[2] It supports Microsoft Exchange 5.5, 2000, 2003, 2007 and 2010.

[edit] Mobile Security

ESET Mobile Security is the replacement for ESET Mobile Antivirus, which provided anti-malware and antispam functionality. ESET Mobile Security contains all the features of the older product and adds new anti-theft features such as SIM locking and remote wipe as well as a security audit and a firewall. Versions for Windows Mobile and a Symbian OS version are currently available for both home and enterprise users.[3][3]

[edit] Remote Administrator

ESET Remote Administrator is a central management console designed to allow network administrators to manage ESET software across a corporate network.

[edit] Smart Security

On November 5, 2007, ESET released an Internet security suite, ESET Smart Security version 3.0, to compete with other security suites by other companies such as McAfee, Symantec, AVG and Kaspersky. ESET Smart Security incorporates anti-spam and a bidirectional firewall along with traditional anti-malware features of ESET NOD32 Antivirus.
On March 2, 2009, ESET Smart Security version 4.0 was released, adding integration of ESET SysInspector; support for Mozilla Thunderbird and Windows Live Mail; a new self-defense module, an updated firewall module, ESET SysRescue and a wizard for creating bootable CD and USB flash drives.[4][5] There were initially compatibility problems between ESET Smart Security 4.0 and Windows Vista Service Pack 2 but these were remedied by an update.[6]
On August 17, 2010, ESET Smart Security version 4.2 was released with new features, enhancements and changes.[7]

[edit] SysInspector

ESET SysInspector is a diagnostic tool which allows in-depth analysis of various aspects of the operating system, including running processes, registry content, startup items and network connections. Anti-Stealth Technology is used to discover hidden objects (rootkits) in the Master Boot Record, boot sector, registry entries, drivers, services and processes. SysInspector Logs are standard XML files and can be submitted to IT experts for further analysis. Two logs can be compared to find a set of items not common to both logs. A log file can be saved as a service script for removing malicious objects from a computer.

[edit] Other programs

ESET has released free standalone removers for malware when they are widespread, such as Mebroot[8] and Conficker.[9]
In July, 2009, ESET released a program called ESET Uninstaller to help uninstall ESET NOD32 Antivirus and ESET Smart Security versions 3 and 4.[10]

[edit] Development

[edit] File Security for Microsoft Windows Server

On June 1, 2010, the first release candidate for ESET File Security for Microsoft Windows Server v4.3 was made available to the public. This program is an updated version of ESET NOD32 Antivirus Business Edition designed for Microsoft Windows Server operating systems and contains a revised user interface, automatic exclusions for critical directories and files and unspecified optimizations for operation on servers.[11]

[edit] Mobile Security

On April 22, 2010, ESET Mobile Security for Windows Mobile and Symbian OS went into public beta.[12] The Home Edition was released on September 2, 2010,[3] and on January 20, 2011, the Business Edition went into beta.[13]
On April 29, 2011, ESET a beta test version for Android was released.[14] On August 10, 2011, the release candidate was made available.[15]

[edit] NOD32 for Mac OS X and Linux Desktop

On December 2, 2009, ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4 for Mac OS X Desktop and ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4 for Linux Desktop were released for public testing. ESET stated the release automatically detects and cleans cross-platform malware, scans archives, automatically scans removable media such as USB flash drives when mounted, performs real-time scanning, provides reports and offers a GUI similar to the Microsoft Windows version.[16] The second beta test versions were released January 9, 2010, and the third on June 10, 2010.[17]
On September 13, 2010, ESET released ESET NOD32 Antivirus for Mac OS X Business Edition.[18] and announced a release candidate for ESET Cybersecurity for Mac OS X[19]
On September 24, 2010, ESET released a Release Candidate for ESET Cybersecurity for Mac OS X[20][21] and on January 21, 2011, ESET released a Release Candidate for ESET NOD32 Antivirus for Linux Desktop[22]

[edit] Smart Security

On May 5, 2011, ESET released a beta test version of ESET Smart Security 5.0. The beta version adds parental control, a cloud-based file reputation service, gamer mode, HIPS and improvements to its antispam, firewall and removable media control functions.[23] On June 14, 2011, ESET released a release candidate for ESET Smart Security version 5.0.[24]

[edit] Discontinued products

[edit] Mobile Antivirus

ESET Mobile Antivirus was aimed at protecting smartphones from viruses, spyware, adware, trojans, worms, rootkits, and other unwanted software. It also provided antispam filtering for SMS messages. Versions for Windows Mobile and Symbian OS were available. ESET discontinued ESET Mobile Antivirus in January 2011 and provides ESET Mobile Security as a free upgrade to licensed users of ESET Mobile Antivirus.[25]

[edit] NOD32 Antivirus v2.7 and older

On 1 February 2010, ESET discontinued version 2.7 of NOD32 Antivirus and all previous version of NOD32 Antivirus. They were removed from the ESET website, including product pages and e-Store. Version 2.7 was the last version supporting DOS-based Windows operating systems (95/98/ME). Update servers for trial users are now offline, but servers for paid users are still online as Virus Signature Database updates and Customer support for version 2.7 will remain available till 1 February 2012.[26]

[edit] Technical information

On a network, NOD32 clients can update from a central "mirror server" on the network.

[edit] Reception

As of 27 April 2011 (2011 -04-27), NOD32 Antivirus holds ICSA Labs certifications.[27] Also as of the same day, NOD32 has accumulated sixty seven VB100 awards from Virus Bulletin; it has thrice failed to receive this award.[28]
In comparative report that Virus Bulletin published on 2 September 2008, NOD32 detected 94.4% of all malware and 94.7% of spyware. It stood above competitors like Norton Internet Security and ZoneAlarm but below Windows Live OneCare and Avira AntiVir.[29]
On 28 April 2008, Robert Vamosi of CNET.com reviewed version 3.0 of NOD32 and gave it a score of 3.5/5.[30] On 6 March 2009, Seth Rosenblatt of Download.com reviewed the 4.0 version of NOD32 gave it a rating of 4.5/5.[31]

Cart Golf Bags To Preserve Your Strength For The Game
By: Trent

Cart golf bags are designed to fit onto a golf cart so that you do not have to carry the bag and so can conserve all your strength for the game. They are different to normal carry bags in that they tend to be larger and bulkier, made from stronger material to give added protection and can carry a wider range of accessories and golf clothing. They also carry a full set of 14 clubs.

Cart Golf Bags Are Heavy – They Are Not Carry Bags!

Cart golf bags are normally a bit too heavy and bulky to lug around the golf course, and have to be used with a golf cart, so if you normally carry your bag do not be attracted by the fabulous designs and capacity, thinking it would be just the thing for you, even if you normally have a caddy, since neither you nor your caddy will appreciate that decision once you get onto the course.

That is why they are called CART golf bags. They are intended to be used with golf carts. Although they can be pretty heavy you should check that you can at least lift it when it is fully loaded. After all, you have to get it from your home to the car, and the car to the golf cart. You have to be able to lift it and secure it the cart. So don’t go wild and purchase the biggest cart golf bag you can find without trying it first.

Keep Up With The Fashion

Another point to consider is that these bulky bags can come with designer umbrellas and other accessories for the lady golfers. You can keep up with the latest fashion by purchasing a bag in the latest color and materials and buying matching handbag and accessories. This, of course, should not be your main consideration, but if you regard your golf accoutrements as making a fashion statement, then the field is open.

Do not, however, make the mistake of neglecting the functionality of cart golf bags. You should choose one which also meets your golfing needs. Perhaps you require a golf bag that holds a full set of 14 clubs, and you may want a locking system with individual compartments which holds each club securely, thus avoiding them moving around in the bag and getting damaged.

Make Sure Your Bag Is Functional

You should also make sure that your choice of the cart golf bags on the market has enough pockets for your needs. You may need pockets for your spare golf balls, tees, accessories such as divot tools, golf gloves, rainwear and an umbrella fastener.

All of these, of course also apply to your choice of any type of golf bag, but cart golf bags are especially suitable for customization due to the fact that weight is not so much of an issue. So choose wisely, and enjoy owning a piece of golfing equipment that you feel proud of.

Getting The Best Golf Bags For Your Clubs
By: Ronald Piper

You might have spent plenty of money on your golf clubs and balls, but it is also important to have the right golf bags to carry your equipment in. Most golfers don't have the benefits of a caddy like the professionals, and it can be a long way around the course. Choosing golf bags that can carry all your equipment easily and are comfortable and easy to move around is important. Also, you want a golf bad that looks good and reflects your style and personality on the course. The wrong golf bags will leave you struggling to find and move your equipment, and perhaps even damaging your clubs or balls. If you want to know how to pick the best golf bags for your equipment, then here are some tips to get you started.

Right or left handed?

Although it might not seem to matter whether you are right or left handed when buying a bag, things are a little different when looking at golf bags. If you are right handed then it is probably not an issue, as most bags are designed for right handed players. However, there are left handed bags on the market as well. If you are left handed then choose one of these bags, as you will then have the pockets and padding on the correct side, making it easier for you to carry around your equipment as you play.

Cart or stand?

Most golf bags require you to carry the bag around with you on your shoulder. However, there are two major types of bags. Those that go in a cart or trolley, and those that stand on the ground. If you are being taken around in a golf cart more often than not, a cart trolley bag is a good option. These bags can be carried around, but can also be easily placed in a golf cart to allow easy transportation. For those walking around the course, then choose a bag that has a stand with it, so that you bag remains upright and usable wherever you are on the course. A stand will also stop your bag from resting on the ground and getting dirty in bad weather. There are bags which combine both functions for those who play on different courses and in different environments.

The right bag

Whatever type of bag you choose, make sure that it has a comfortable carrying strap and that it is sturdy and well made. Also, make sure that you can easily get to all of your equipment in the bag whenever you need to, and that it is all securely stored. There is nothing worse than having to fumble around for golf balls or having clubs fall out of your bag. If you pick the right bag then you will make transporting and using your golf equipment much easier.

Save $ with Golf Ball Used
By: Jay Moncliff

Golf s sometimes a frustrating game. Many have been known to lose their cool after hitting a ball into the rough, a sand trap or the water. Sometimes, the ball just seems to disappear. Tired of wasting all that money on golf balls that don't seem to ever come back? Try investing in some of the used golf balls available online.

If you golf, chances are you've gone through your share of balls. They seem to get lost all the time, and the costs mount quickly. Even the best golfers routinely lose balls, and for the average duffer, these "misplaced" golf balls can quickly become an expensive addition to the golf outing.

Used golf balls that are in great condition and ready to play can be purchased in bulk over the internet. There are many companies that sell used balls, usually in dozens. Different companies have different grading systems but they are all relatively similar.

Most sites describe some sort of quality assurance sorting, so that the balls are graded. Balls are sorted into various categories and sold by the dozen.

Top grade used golf balls are often called Grade A or Grade 1, one or two sites listed them as Grade AAA. They are usually described as like new. Many customers have commented that these balls are often indistinguishable from the new ones, and can be subsequently lost just as quickly as those right out of the sleeve. These are usually described as near perfect with a slight blemish or mark.

Slightly less perfect balls are Grade B or Grade 2. These have more than one mark, but play like new. Accordingly, the price is a bit less than the near perfect ones.

Finally, there is a third grade called Grade C or 3. Occasionally the site will go ahead and call them range balls. These balls are more used, with several marks and blemishes, but would be suitable for range play or practice rounds. These are even less expensive than the others.

Make sure that your site specifies that there are no "X out" or manufacturer rejects. You should be receiving slightly used, but good balls. Also, you may want to inquire if the site you have chosen allows water balls. I'd avoid these if possible.

Check with your local golf club as well. Sometimes local clubs hold sales of used balls to clear their inventories as well. You may be able to buy back some of the balls you lost last season!

Finally, compare price and shipping costs on your used golf balls. Most shipping charges seem to run between $5.95 per dozen and $7.95 per dozen, but verify in advance. You should also be able to get a significant shipping discount for orders of more than one dozen.

Shopping for used golf balls can be a great way to cut the expenses of your golfing habit. Before you hit the links, try purchasing some practice balls you won't mind losing!

Surely You Jest - Discount Golf in a Desert?
By: Albert Medinas

At the end of the day, when all the lights are turned off, it is still just a desert. Go five miles or less outside of the Las Vegas city limits and you will see ample evidence of this fact. So, how do they get a golf club in the desert? Feed it tons of water and charge the moon for a single round of golf, that's how! Is there even such a thing as discount golf prices in a desert?

Now, Las Vegas is not a cheap place to visit anyway - those slot machines and craps tables have a way of calling you in your sleep. Add a modest night of gambling to a couple rounds of golf, and you may have to promise your firstborn to some shady character standing outside the casino. But there is always a way to find discount golf - Las Vegas style!

What exactly do you mean "discount golf Las Vegas style"?

Look, there is one thing that attracts millions of visitors to a city out in the middle of the desert every year, and it sure isn't the scenery. Las Vegas is what it is because of legalized gambling, and the entire town is devoted to seeing adults have some fun. So, you want to get some discount golf Las Vegas style? Then go with a package deal, where you stay in a hotel that offers golf as well. Several hotels, including the Sands, offer discount golf as a way of enticing visitors to stay - and let's not forget GAMBLE - in their casinos. And let's be honest - you know that you are going to lose money gambling anyway, so why not take advantage of some discount golf - Las Vegas style - while visiting?

But what if I am staying at a hotel that doesn't have a golf course?

Well, there are a lot of package deals that include discount golf at offsite locations. Basically, the hotel gets a price break for driving business to the golf courses, and the hotels can offer discount golf as a perk for staying at their hotel. While packages vary from hotel to hotel and by the time of year, you generally get a better discount golf rate the longer you stay. Plus, by booking in advance, you can also enjoy some discount golf at even lower prices.

So I am not the sharpest tool in the shed...I don't have a package deal and I never book early....what then?

Well, it could be ugly trying to find some discount golf in a desert, when you are not staying at a hotel with major gaming activities and package deals with area golf clubs. I'm not saying it's impossible to play some discount golf, but you better get that loan pre-approved so you at least have bus fare home after enjoying a few rounds on the links. About the best hope you have is to visit the city during off-peak times, or plan on playing well into the evening, if you want to get some discount golf rates. As with most clubs, weekday rates are lower than those charged on the weekends. So you have an idea as to the price, you can land a round of discount golf in Las Vegas for around $100. Sadly, however, poor planning will cost you, because you can stay at some hotels for that same amount PLUS get a round of golf in! So, if you want some discount golf when visiting Las Vegas, book early and get in on package deals. Otherwise, well...better bring the plastic.

In the game of golf, having the ball go where you want it to is not always as easy as it looks. There are so many different elements that all have to come together to culminate in the perfect swing, golfers who aren't doing as well as other players are turning to golf fitness training to improve their game. One of the first things they learn is how to strengthen their legs in order to maintain balance during the swing.

Golf fitness training is aimed at those golfers who only play twice a month or seasonally. The idea is to target the rarely used muscles that will specifically improve your golf game and also get them to work with the other muscles that you use more regularly. This kind of training will also help prevent back and leg injuries, which are common among golfers.

Many golfers spend a lot of time playing their first full eighteen holes in pain. This is where golf fitness training can help. If you collapse on the couch in the clubhouse with pain in muscles you didn't know you ever had, it's because you never use them. Golf fitness training has specific exercises and stretches you can use to improve these muscle groups and reduce the amount of pain you feel after a game.

Balance can be improved by using different muscles. Strength training the quads, the hamstrings and calves will also help improve your stance. If you combine the strength of your legs with solid upper arms and abdominals you will have more control over you balance during the stroke.

After you strengthen your legs and achieve perfect balance, a golf fitness training program will help you with the next element of the swing to learn: shifting your feet. Ideally you want to hit the ball with your weight positioned over the back foot. With stronger legs and better balance the ball should go farther and more consistently now that you are shifting your feet during the swing.

Golf fitness training includes strengthening your back muscles to also improve your swing. There are muscles in your back and side commonly called lats. These can be strengthened on a pull-up bar or a rowing machine. Working on these muscles will keep them from hurting during the game just like the other muscles that you use. Read more about improving your golf swing at http://www.golftipsofthemonth.com

By continuing to use all of the stretches and strength training exercises that you can learn from a golf fitness training program, you can stay fit throughout the year and keep improving your game.

Golf fitness training usually works better for those golfers who are in reasonable shape. If you aren't, it might not work as well for you as others who are more fit. You might want to try walking a mile everyday and eating better before you work up to the twice a week twenty-five minute workouts eventually recommended. Of course you must always talk to a doctor before you start the program.

This may sound strange, but fat loss for golfers is a topic that's gaining traction among the golfing population. Losing weight is on the minds of not only golfers, but our growingly over weight society.

Lose Fat Not Pounds

Here is a big misconception! Losing weight on a scale means absolutely nothing! I hate to burst your bubble, but throw your scale away for good. Do you want to know the cheapest bodyfat test you can take?

It's your belt!

That's right...when you "go on" your diet (meaning you'll soon go off it) you should make not of the notch it's in now, and if it goes down as you progess through your fat loss program. This is no "BS". If it stays the same, you have most likely not lost much fat. Losing weight for golf doesn't have to be that hard!

Losing weight on a scale only means the number has gone down, not necessarily your bodyfat. The human body can lose 5 pounds of water weight just through calorie-deprivation.

Calories In - Calories Out

That's your equation for permanent fat loss for golfers. Eat in moderation and increase your activity so you are burning more than you are taking in. You will LOSE FAT FAST if you do this.

I'm not talking about a diet, deprivation or something you can's sustain for the rest of your life. I'm talking about modest "adjustments" in your food choices and physical activity. Becoming a lean golfer will be easy!

Take a look at everything you put in your body. Do you think it is high-octane fuel, or poison to your body! Example; sugar is poison, fruit and vegetables are premium grade fuel.

What exactly do you mean "discount golf Las Vegas style"?Look, there is one thing that attracts millions of visitors to a city out in the middle of the desert every year, and it sure isn't the scenery. But what if I am staying at a hotel that doesn't have a golf course?Well, there are a lot of package deals that include discount golf at offsite locations. So I am not the sharpest tool in the shed...I don't have a package deal and I never book early....what then?Well, it could be ugly trying to find some discount golf in a desert, when you are not staying at a hotel with major gaming activities and package deals with area golf clubs.

Buying Pre-Owned Golf Equipment
By: qpolash

If you are on a budget but golf is your sport of choice then you have many options to purchase pre-owned golf equipment. From gently worn items to golf cars that no longer suit the needs of fellow golfers there are countless ways to own high quality low priced golf items. And even if you are not on a set income there are many opportunities to find quality golfing items that are in great condition.

Golf clubs are a very intimate part of every golf game. Purchasing used golf clubs can be tricky but not impossible. If you are patient and have an idea what type of golf clubs suit you best, resale shops are a penny-wise approach to acquiring high quality low cost golf clubs. In looking for left handed clubs or other unique features you might be surprised how easily your search for used clubs will succeed in sound results. Whether you are on a budget or just like to spend your money in a wise manner used golf clubs are the ticket.

Gently worn golf shoes are not an uncommon purchase. Whether found at a yard sale, thrift store or a pre-owned golf accessory store, name brand and low cost shoes are an easy find. Here again patience will be a helpful tool in your search. There is a saying among resale shop patrons, “If you are looking for something specific, odds are you won’t find it until you have bought it new.” An open mind is also a very wonderful thing when shopping resale venues.

Used golf balls can be found by the bag at yard sales or thrift stores. These balls are a smart purchase and serve a great need by allowing the golfer a way to practice his or her golf swing without concern to the loss. Bags of tees can be found for minimal cost also. Ball washers, golf towels, and cleat wrench kits are all likely finds in the resale atmosphere. Head covers and other accessories are common among yard sales and in resale shops.

Golf cars and carts can be purchased used. Manual push or pull carts can easily be a high cost item. Purchasing gently used golf carts is another way to stay geared up with quality equipment while money remains in your pocket. There are websites available that make finding replacement parts for motorized golf cars a breeze. Even purchasing a golf car that needs a small amount of maintenance or possibly a new mechanical part or accessory is not an unusually bad decision.

Purchasing pre-owned articles is a great way to save money and most times you will find decent well taken care of products. In some cases there are safe guards to take into account so that you are not spending hard earned money on an item that will only cause you grief, give you a headache and cost you more money in the long run. More than likely your pre-owned, resold, or gently used equipment; accessories and personal golfing items will bring you years of happy use.

The Importance of Having Good Golf Shoes
By: Robert Partain

One of the most important tools that you have in your playing arsenal is also one of the most overlooked. Yup, the lowly golf shoe. The importance of a good fitting golf shoe cannot be understated. Think about it. If your feet are properly secured to ground, the rest of you won't be either when you make that swing. Shoes that slip or slide on wet grass, or shoes that feel like you're standing on nails in dry conditions will only diminish your game and cost you strokes at the end of the day.

It's not always necessary to buy a new pair of golf shoes. In many cases, a good cleaning and changing out the cleats is all you need to do. Switching out your old cleats is a simple job. It may take a few minutes to complete the task, but once it's done, you will certainly notice a difference in your footing.

Cleated shoes are the very best choice if you often play in wet or soft conditions. Not only rain, but dew on grass in the mornings is considered a 'wet' condition.

Dimpled soles or plastic spikes are far more comfortable and the better choice if you often play in hard, dry conditions.

When it comes to buying new shoes, you have several options. You can visit your pro shop and get some advice there, and perhaps even buy your shoes there. But keep in mind, many pro shops, the smaller ones, don't carry a wide selection of shoes. You can also do some shopping on the Internet. Most of the brand name shoes have their own web sites and offer great deals. It's not always true, but often enough you can find dealers who will ship for free.

While you are online you may want to look at some of the "warehouse" style companies who offer lots of brands at discounted prices. These, too, often offer free shipping.

And lastly, you may want to visit your local Wal Mart or other discount shopping place. Many of the larger ones have dozens of golf shoes in many different top name brands at very affordable prices.

One thing to remember, when you feet start slipping or sliding, it's time to inspect those golf shoes. Either fix them up with some new spikes or consider buying a new pair. Your game will only deteriorate until you do!

I know what you're thinking - golf on a budget! Can there be such a thing? Well, it is possible, if you take a balanced, objective look at the strategies used in marketing golf products.

Case in point - I just interviewed a local golf shop owner today. We were talking about the new golf balls, and he was telling me that representatives from different companies send him golf balls to use, hoping that he'll recommend them to his customers.

Well, he said he's tried just about everything, and in his opinion, they all play about the same now. Picking up a box of 12 Titleist balls, he said, "This one is probably the best." They cost $24.99 for the dozen. Then he laughed and picked up another box. "But this one is our best seller."

The box was priced $44.99 for the dozen. I looked surprised. He shook his head and said, "It's all hype. People think that if the balls cost double, they're bound to play better."

Now we have the new hybrid ironwoods. Are they really going to change your game that much? Or is it all a part of the marketing pitch?

I heard one marketer say that since the golf market was so saturated, he priced his clubs at three times the price of anyone else's. And he sold hundreds of thousands of dollars worth. The clubs weren't any more expensive to make than other clubs. It was just a "market test". And folks bought like crazy.

Since no two people play golf the same - and everyone has an individual physique and swing - a product that adds distance for one player may not help another player at all.

Think about something you do very well that requires a piece of equipment. You're the expert in this area. Should everyone who attempts your job then buy the exact same equipment as you have? Will that mean they'll be able to do the job better or as well as you?

Food for thought, isn't it? I enjoy gardening, and have a lovely flower garden. But I only have one or two garden tools that are considered the best. The other things I use because that's what I've always used.

So just because one golf pro buys one kind of ball or club doesn't mean that it's the best for you.

The sales pitches that swear you're going to add 30 yards and never hit another slice entice us to shell out the big bucks. But if you're careful and have a healthy dose of skepticism, you'll save both time and money in the long run.

Remember, in the golf world, just because a product is more expensive, doesn't mean it's necessarily any better.

5 Key Things to Look For When Purchasing a Golf Umbrella
By: John Bolt

If you play golf on a regular basis you will eventually get caught in the rain. You have to be prepared for these conditions with the proper golf umbrella. It is a critical piece of golf equipment because nobody likes to play golf when they're soaking wet. I've put together the 5 most important criteria a golf umbrella must have to be effective. Let's take a look...

1. Be at Least 60 Inches Wide
Try to get the largesse umbrella you can find let alone handle. The bigger and wider the cover the more area it shield from the weather. Especially for those who walk the course and carry their own bags. You also want to keep as much of your equipment dry as possible.

2. Wind Tested
Make sure the umbrella is able to withstand incredibly high winds. Check to see that it has a double canopy or another form of open air slots. This is so that the air can flow through the vents and prevent it form inverting or turning inside out. It will also prevent from being pulled across the fairway should a sudden gust of wind kick up.

3. Fiberglass Shaft
This material is important to allow a little flex or movement in the shaft during blustery weather. It's also safer then having a steel shaft should there be any lightening in the area when you are making your way back to the clubhouse.

4. Colorful or Imprinted
Find a stylish and bright colored one that catches your eye or has a look that you like. You may also look for an imprinted golf umbrella with a cool logo you like or represent. (Favorite sports team) The main thing is to make sure that it's visible to other golfers during the darker overcast conditions.

5. Plastic Stake
Make sure your new golf umbrella has a long plastic stake at the top end. This is mainly so you can stick one end into the turf when you are going to hit your shot. It helps to prevent it from blowing away when you set it down.

Now that you know what to look for in a golf umbrella, go out and get the coolest one you can find. But remember one thing: don't scrimp on this purchase so you don't regret it the next time it rains.

Playing golf, by definition, involves taking metallic objects (mostly), into places where they are going to thrash around in the dirt for several hours. So they are going to get dirty at the very least. And that's on good days when the weather is good.

For most of us, we don't have that hotline to the forces of nature that keep the rain out, so in worsening conditions, golf club care is a priority if we want to maximize our performance.

Not to mention protecting the investment we've made in that great set of golf clubs we just bought.

Particularly if you bought cheap golf clubs, or used golf clubs, you might be less inclined to spend a half hour cleaning up after you finish your round. The important thing to consider here is not the size of your investment, which may be smaller that the exorbitant prices you can pay for branded golf clubs, but the impact on your game.

By being careful, shot by shot, as you play your round, you can clean as you go, which means each time you take a club out of the bag, you know that it is in perfect condition and you have a great chance of playing a good shot.

Keeping dirt, grass, moisture and sand off your clubs, will enhance your playing performance, as well as giving you the confidence you might lack with golf clubs you paid a little less for.

That's not to say those who spent a lot of money on the latest branded golf clubs need take less golf club care. On the contrary, of course. You have a serious investment to protect!

There are simple measures anyone can use in their regular golf club care. Having the right golf accessories is probably the key action you can take (apart, of course, from actually using what you have!). Good head covers protect your golf clubs in the hurly-burly of transit from home to course.

Simple cleaning tools are vital as well. And when you do, eventually get them home, a good golf cleaning product can help as well.

Golf club care is not rocket science. It's simple, quick and easy when you get into a routine.

So, by taking care of your golf clubs, not only will you do the best job possible to look after any financial investment you made, but you will also being doing all you possibly can to get the best scores out of those very golf clubs you own.

(c) 2007 "Choosing Great Golf Clubs". All you need to know to make the right decisons before you buy your next set of golf clubs. There's all the information you could ask for, at Martin Haworth's website, Choosing Great Golf Clubs

Used golf clubs are available all over the place and give you the chance to try golfing inexpensively. If you do not stick with it you are not out as much money.

If you are a regular golfer you can usually find some nice used golf clubs that are the same as the new set you have been eyeing at the store - and with a significantly reduced price.

Used Golf Clubs - What You Must Check First

If you decide to buy some used golf clubs there are some things you should check out before purchase.

First check the grips. The grips should not be to worn or cracked. If you buy clubs with bad grips and have to regrip them it kind of ruins the whole good deal. Gripping done by a professional can add up to fifteen dollars per club.

The second thing to check out when buying used golf club's is the shafts. You should twist the head and the grip in opposite directions - it should show good resistance. Eye the club straight out in front of you to check for any bending.

Third, check out the club heads. Make sure the club head is not too worn. There will probably be some wear but as long as the grooves are still defined and there are no indentations they should be fine.

Buying Online Is A Great Deal

Used golf club's are all over the internet. From e-Bay to private dealers and even the big dogs sell used sets. Make sure you check the price of the same site as new to see if you are getting a good deal. Of course, one problem with buying used golf clubs online is that you cannot test them.

You can't swing them around and get a feel for them. This is not to say that you should not purchase used golf club's online, it's best to just exercise a little caution.

Insist on a picture of each club in the set lined up so you can be sure they are all from the same set. Some of you may not be to worried about all the above concerns since you only play occasionally for fun. If you want to buy previously owned golf clubs and get a lot of use out of them, do check them carefully before you buy wherever possible.

Look For A Good Reputation

Used golf clubs on the market are generally a good deal and in good shape. Deal with someone who has a good reputation and you will do just fine.

There are some really fantastic deals out there and with some time and patience you can find the right set for you.

One last note on previously owned golf clubs is the putter. You may want to consider investing in a really good putter that suits you personally, by working with a retailer to locate just the right one for you. Putting is frustrating enough without using the right equipment for you.

Have fun finding your used golf clubs and enjoy the game.

You Don't Have To Suffer With An Imperfect Golf Swing

Golfers today are most concerned about inconsistency, slicing and distance. Golf is one of the most difficult games to master and most golfers just don't have the time to put into it nor the time to practice to significantly improve it. In order to play golf well you need good hand-eye coordination, good balance, knowledge of golf swing biomechanics, some athletic ability and a little creativity.

Understanding the golf swing is one of the first steps you can take toward improvement. Keep positive energy flowing and don't give in to any negative thoughts while you're playing. You want to play golf with supreme confidence. Know that you're improving your swing each time you play. A common mental error golfers make when driving the ball is to hit it as hard as they possibly can.

It's difficult for a golfer to practice hitting shots longer than short pitch shots at home. It pays to practice at a driving range or indoor golf training facility if you're lucky enough to have one in your area.

Many left-handed golfers prefer the right-handed golf swing. Now when you swing, if you have problems with your left knee buckling, then imagine holding a soccer ball between your knees. And use the basic 'hitchhiker' position when working on your backswing. At the end of a backswing the hands should be above the right shoulder with the golf club pointing in the intended direction of the ball flight. And you don't want to grip the club too tightly.

When you swing the club, use the muscles in your legs and trunk. The most important thing about the swing is the angle, not the strength that's applied to it, that's one of the many secrets to a perfect and proper golf swing. And accomplished golfers purposely use sidespin to steer the ball around course obstacles or head toward the safe side of fairways and greens.

Before you swing, make sure you're relaxed. Contract all your muscles tightly for a moment, and then relax them. Make sure to always focus on the proper golf swing technique.

You don't want to underestimate the value of fitness when it comes to your swing and your overall golf game. One tip: hold a medicine ball in front of you and turn back and forth. It must be rotational if you want to improve your driving distance. The proper golf swing is mostly rotational so it does makes sense to concentrate on your turning ability as it relates to range of motion and speed. To prevent injuries and improve your swing speed and distance requires that your body be strong and flexible.

Ask an expert for advice on golf swing trainers - someone who is not associated with the shop you would normally buy equipment from. If you need an aid to improve your stance they're easy to find. Whether or not you're a seasoned golfer or just starting out, pick just one trainer or aid and go to work on a natural swing.

And make sure to look for reviews and ratings online or offline for any golf swing trainer you're considering. There are lots of good aids on the market today. Golf swing trainers and aids will improve your golf game if used correctly.

Golf trainers are often available for sale at your pro shop or local golf shop. Some sporting goods stores also have trainers and aids to improve your game. Before buying any trainer check with an expert to get an idea of what problem you need to work on first, like the backlift of your swing or the momentum of downward thrust or stance.

Make sure to find and use good aids to help improve your game. Try to concentrate on just one of the weaknesses in your swing at a time. Get out on the driving range with all your custom golf clubs, golf bag and other equipment as often as you can.

There are many ways to get swing tips, game tips and instruction so when you do have time to hit the course, you'll have a plan in mind. Even seasoned golfers can never get enough good and free golf swing tips.

Golf Tips: The Simple Secret to Solving the Slice

author unkown, learn how to claim this article

The slice is a shot which usually starts off slightly to the left, then swerves to the right in the air. The slice is a common fault that occurs in many beginners game and has to be one of the most frustrating things that can happen to a golfer. In most cases, the slice is uncontrollable and is destructive more often than not resulting in the ball being sent deep into the rough. It is also far more common than the hook which occurs when the ball does the opposite through the air.

Ways to cure the slice:

Firstly, make sure your body alignment is correct, your shoulders, chest hips and feet should all be parallel to each other as well as parallel to the ball to pin line. If your body is not aligned correctly and is aiming too far to the left, the upper body can not and does not rotate properly. This leads to an out to in' swing which means that the club will not be hitting through the ball but instead will be moving from outside the ball to inside the ball as the impact takes place. The consequence of this is side spin being generated on the ball and the dreaded uncontrollable slice follows.

Even if your alignment, swing and grip are perfect, the positioning of the ball in the stance can make a good straight shot into a shot that slices wildly out of play. This occurs when the ball is placed too far forward in the stance.

Once again the slicing of the ball occurs because the club face is no longer square on at impact with the ball. This is because the club face has come past square and is moving in from the ball to pin line, this again generates side spin resulting in the ball slicing again.

Ideal ball placement is different for every club, but this is a rough guide:

For woods and long irons, the ball should be placed inline with the inside of your left heel (opposite for left hand players), for short irons place the ball in the centre of the stance, for medium irons the ball should be placed between two positions mentioned above.

Posture should be checked as weight distribution can also have an affect. Having your weight too far forward can encourage the slice so be wary of your weight distribution.

If all else fails, try strengthening your grip. Do this by moving your hands slightly clockwise around the club, then adjust your grip so you're holding it more in your fingers and lighten the pressure, this should help reduce the affect of the slicing.

Happy golfing!

This is your guide to find TaylorMade r7 clone drivers to suit your game, save you money, and utilize technology used by professional golfers Retief Goosen, Sergio Garcia and Darren Clarke, among many other professional golfers.

Of late, TaylorMade Golf has introduced its r7 line of drivers: r7 Quad 460 Driver, r7 Quad 460 TP Driver and r7 Quad 425 Driver. This is no surprise as all golf manufacturers must keep inventing new driver styles and technology advancements to stay competitive. Below you will find great choices of TaylorMade r7 clone drivers.

The TaylorMade r7 Quad 460 Driver offers the highest moment of inertia of any TaylorMade driver. This results in tremendous forgiveness and long, straight results on off-center hits. The Inverted Cone Technology in this driver dramatically expands the portion of the clubface that delivers high Coefficient of Restitution (COR) producing higher ball velocity and greater distances in drives. This driver comes with adjustable weights to alter the launch and face angle at impact to customize trajectory and maximize distance.

The following driver golf clones offer you great alternatives to the TaylorMade r7 Quad 460 Driver at a fraction of the price:

Tour Model T-8 460 Titanium Driver -- The newly engineered beta titanium face of the T8 driver possesses the spring effect to help launch your ball to distances most golfers aren't used to. The direction and the trajectory are determined by how the golfer places the 3 adjustable and interchangeable weights located throughout the head.

Power Play System Q 455cc Driver -- The increased volume and broader shape makes this one of the most stable drivers in golf. Thin Beta Titanium face produces exceptional distance with control.

Turner T5 Titanium Driver -- The SP 700 Beta Titanium face offers the latest technology in variable face thickness to maximize drives. This driver has technology that allows players to optimize the driver with a weight configuration that is best for each player's game.

The TaylorMade r7 Quad 460 TP Driver includes all the benefits of the r7 Quad 460 Driver with the added benefit of two additional weights. These weights (6-gram and 10-gram) can be used for shot manipulation and added control. Professional golfer Sergio Garcia chooses to have this driver in his bag.

Two other great clone choices that can save you money and allow you to harness this technology are:

Power Play System Q Tri-Port Driver -- This driver is a massive 460cc adjustable weight driver. The results of your ability to adjust the weights in the driver head are helping you shape your shot in order for you to find more fairways and in turn help lower your score. Three interchangeable weights (two 3.5g and one 12g) are included with each head.

Turbo Power Ti7 460cc Ti Driver -- This driver features a wider, shallower clubface to generate a higher trajectory and longer carry for extra distance. It also integrates a moveable weighting system of Launch Control Technology. A 3-weight port system clusters mass at the rear and to the sides which is ideal for optimizing launch angle and improving head stability.

The TaylorMade r7 Quad 425 Driver offers exceptionally high moment of inertia and forgiveness for consistently long, straight results. You can set this driver up to have six sets of launch conditions by utilizing 28 grams of movable weight using the four TLC ports. Inverted Cone Technology provides a larger area of the clubface to deliver higher ball velocity and greater distance, even on mis-hits. Professional golfer Retief Goosen used this driver to win the 2007 Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.

Other great TaylorMade r7 Quad 425 Driver clones include the following:

Dynacraft Genesis Titanium Driver -- Allows for complete customization for both directional control and swing weight. Each driver includes an installed 10 gram tungsten screw in the heel, 6.5 gram stainless screw in the center and a 3.5 gram stainless screw in the toe. To achieve desired swing weight and to fine tune for draw or fade bias, these screws are completely interchangeable.

Turbo Power T9 Titanium Driver -- Pushes driver technology to the outer limits. There are numerous ways to configure your driver to optimize the direction and trajectory of your drives. The T9 Titanium Driver also includes two 4 gram titanium weights, one each of the 6 and 8 gram tungsten weights and a tool that is used to insert and remove the weights.

These are a few of the many TaylorMade clones on the market today. With so many other choices besides higher priced brand name clubs, considering clone golf clubs makes a lot of sense for many golfers.

Want to Play Extraordinary Golf?

Want to Play Better Golf?
Get Into The Right Frame of Mind!

Think about what you normally do before you start a round of golf with your friends. Are you running your kids across town to soccer practice? Are you still sleepy from the poor night's rest you had? Are you all jazzed up on 6 cups of coffee? Are you nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs because you've been chili dipping the ball? No doubt you are in some state of mind before you start your round of golf. And more often than not, I would be willing to bet my Ben Hogan autographed book that it is the wrong frame of mind.

I know you have a busy life. But the key is to get into the right frame of mind before you step onto the first tee box. How do you do this? Well, let me just say that it is not always easy and takes practice to get into the right frame of mind. So don't be frustrated or disappointed in yourself if it takes a little while. Remember this is a game and it is supposed to be fun. Why else would you be out there paying big bucks to hit a little white ball into a tiny tin cup?

The first thing is to find out where your head is at least a half hour before you start your round. Are you feeling mad at your boss, frustrated with the kids? Did you just have a tiff with your spouse or did some crazy person just try to run you off the road? Are you having jitters because you've been topping the ball or are you playing for big bucks with your buddies? Any and all of these things have an affect on you and your game. The pros know this and you need to as well.

So, what are some things you can do to get in the right frame of mind? For me, being relaxed, confident and having positive energy flowing through my body is key. You may be a little different. My question to you is how did you feel inside when you played your best round of golf? Think about it and go back to that time and place. All was right with the World for you wasn't it? But what about it was right? What were the feelings you had? Were you relaxed? Were you confident? Were you having fun? Did you trust your golf swing? Were you enjoying your golf partners?

Here are some of the things I noticed about myself when I played my best rounds:

" I felt excited to be playing and what nervousness I might have had was in the background of my mind
" I was happy to be playing a round of golf with my friends and didn't worry that they might laugh at me if I sliced the ball
" I felt a sense of calmness inside that couldn't be shaken
" I felt confident, energized and happy to be out on the golf course amid the tree-lined fairways and beautifully manicured greens.
" I felt worry free and joked with my golfing partners
" I felt the magic of being alive and knew instinctively that I was going to strike the golf ball purely.
" My mind wasn't cluttered with a zillion thoughts; instead there was focus and quietness
" My body felt relaxed, rested and healthy
" For lack of a better word, I was in the Zone

Let's say that you are a nervous wreck with eighteen million thoughts, mostly negative, scurrying around in your head. How do you get from point A, the worry wart to Point B, the focused golfer? Again, if this is your normal state before you play a round of golf, don't expect to change this overnight. It is a process.

First, identify what is the norm for you. Are you usually just rushing from work to go play golf and your mind is somewhere else? Or is it that you have been struggling with your game and fear is almost paralyzing you? Identifying your state of mind before you play golf is key. I don't mean to get all psychological on you but golf is very much a mental game! There is no cure-all golf gizmo or one right way to swing a club. Even if there was, your mind would interfere.

If you are having trouble identifying what you are feeling or how you are being before a round of golf, then your first step is to pay attention to yourself. It can be a hard thing to do. Sometimes we get so busy in our daily lives that there just doesn't seem to be time to stop and look at ourselves. One way to find out what your feeling or thinking is to be quiet for 5 minutes. Listen and learn.

I noticed that for myself when I am tired, nervous or rushed I generally tend to play a poor round of golf. I have arrived at a point in my game where I can usually shake those feelings or state of mind before the round begins. And you will learn to do this too with some practice. The one I still feel challenged by is when I feel out of sync, or out of rhythm. It's like some uncoordinated teenager has possessed my body and wreaks havoc with my game. Those are the rounds where I just do my very best to stay centered and play a safe game. I know I won't break any records but I also know that I won't spend the day in the woods hunting for my golf ball!

Here are some ideas on how to get into a different state of mind:

Listen to your favorite music
Pay attention to your golf partners
Do something nice for someone else
Sing or Hum a tune
Visualize your best round of golf
Think about your best memories in life
Talk with a good friend
Tell jokes
Laugh
Meditate
Visualize mastering the challenging holes
Walk the course and notice your beautiful surroundings
Think about the times you felt most confident

So how do you get from one state, let's say rushed, to a more relaxed calm state? I have had times when I have been running 90mph before a game of golf and my mind is keeping pace with my body. I know that if I keep that pace, my golf game will suffer. I use whatever trick seems to work at that moment. Taking deep breaths is always a good start. Swinging my club between my finger tips at a slow easy pace can be calming and creates tempo. Looking at the beauty of the golf course can be relaxing and uplifting, especially if I was caught in a traffic jam. You will have to practice what works for you. The one thing that always gets me in the zone is to replay one of my best rounds in my mind along with the feelings I had. I can't help but smile and feel good.

What Are the Best Exercises for the Golfer?
author unkown, learn how to claim this article

With all the talk about the players on tour getting stronger and more flexible, we hear a lot about exercising for golf from television commentators and read about it in the golf publications. But what exactly are the best exercises for the amateur golfer?

A great question that has a good answer, but before we give you the answer let us provide some background so the answer makes a little more sense to you. First of all, discussing the golf swing for the time being will get us rolling.

What exactly is the golf swing? The golf swing is an athletic movement that requires using of the entire body from "feet to fingertips" in order to complete the swing. Realize that the golf swing is not about the club, not just about your grip, or where your head is during the swing. The golf swing is a movement that requires your entire body to move through a sequence of movements with the correct timing. To perform the "athletic movement" of the golf swing requires the body to begin at address, move through the actual phases of the golf swing and complete it with the follow through. In order to perform this activity with efficiency and repetitively, the body must have certain physical parameters.

These parameters, as I call them, are actual physical categories of the body that need to be developed to a certain level. These categories of the body are the platform from which the body is able to perform the athletic movement of a golf swing efficiently. The categories are probably familiar to many of you, but for the purpose of this article let us briefly run through them.

The body is required to have certain levels of flexibility, balance, endurance, strength, and power to complete a golf swing. If the body lacks in any of the above categories, then the results will be seen in the golf swing. The results are usually in the form of poor mechanics, bad shots, or poor scores on the course. So, now that we know what the connection is between the "body" and the "swing" let us address the question about the best exercises for golf.

The Best Exercises for Golf

Let's say you walk into your local health club and see all the fancy machines and aerobic machines at the facility to get you shape. What ones would choose? Would you choose running on the treadmill for 30 minutes, or would it be better to push out a couple sets of bench presses? Well, the answer to our question really lies within the connection between your swing and your body.

I will tell you that exercises meant to "pump you up!" or give you that "six pack" are not necessarily the correct exercises for your golf game. Neither is that weight training program you used back in high school. So, with those thoughts in mind what do you think the best exercises for golf are?

Right now we know, in general terms about the golf swing, what is required of the body for the golf swing and what exercises are not good for the swing. Armed with that knowledge we can decipher what the best exercises for golf are for you.

Beginning with flexibility, we know that the entire body must move through certain ranges of motion to perform an effective golf swing. And what happens if your body is not able to move through the required ranges of motion of the golf swing? The answer: the golf swing will mechanically suffer resulting in shots that are less than optimal. So part of the exercises that are good for golfers are flexibility exercises and, even more so, flexibility exercises that work the muscles used in the golf swing through the movements involved in the golf swing. So first and foremost flexibility exercises should be on the top of your list.

The second category of exercises that would be conducive to the golf swing would have to do with balance. We hear about balance in reference to the golf swing all the time. "Stay balanced through the swing; transfer your weight to maintain balance during the swing?" But what does balance exactly mean? Balance is the ability to control your body through a specific movement pattern. The movement pattern we are discussing just happens to be the golf swing. We know the importance of balance in relation to the golf swing, so how do we train our body for better balance in the golf swing? Before we answer that question we need to know a little more about balance. Balance in relation to the body has to do with the connection between your nerves and muscles. Essentially your nervous system, as a result of messages sent from your brain, tells your muscles how to move to maintain the body's balance. The more efficient your nerves and muscles are to these messages the greater balance abilities the body develops. So balance exercises train both the nervous system and muscular system to become more efficient at this function. Summing it all up, balance is the second category of exercises that will assist your golf game.

The third category of exercises that are beneficial to golf have to do with your muscles. The golf swing requires the muscles of your body to move through a specific range of motion (flexibility) and help with your balance capacities. In order to perform these actions and others, your body needs certain levels of strength and endurance. The definition of strength is the ability of the muscles to exert force for the given "athletic action" (simplified definition but a good working definition for us). Endurance is the ability of your muscles to do the same activity over and over again for a specific amount of time.

First off, let us discuss strength. The golf swing has one intention of developing club head speed while maintaining balance through the swing. The muscles in your body must have enough strength in them to do both. Now, when we discuss building strength for the golf swing it is NOT the type of strength needed to bench press 250 lbs. Or squat 500! It is strength geared towards the improvement of your swing. I refer to this type of strength as "golf strength." So when you get to the gym, performing strength exercises like bench press will not help your swing. Exercises that train the body in the positions and through the movements of the golf swing will help your swing.

In addition to strength, we need to develop endurance in your muscles. Think of how many swings you may take over the course of 18 holes. In order for you to be able to swing the club the same way on the 18th hole as you did on the 1st hole. Your body has to have high levels of endurance. This will allow your body to perform the golf swing without getting tired. You develop endurance similar to how you develop "golf strength." Utilize exercises that train the body in the positions and through the movements of the golf swing. Lighter loads with higher repetitions will be used for these exercises. The end result will be the development of "golf endurance."

The final segment of exercises beneficial to your golf swing is power training. Power training is geared towards the ability of your body to generate high levels of club head speed. Power development by the body is what allows for greater distance on your shots. Clubs help, golf balls help, but it really comes down to the piece of machinery, your body, swinging those club and hitting those golf balls. Development of power for the golf swing is very similar to the development of "golf strength and endurance." It is the utilization of exercises that place your body in the positions and move you through movements similar to the golf swing.

Summary

So there you have it, the answer to the types of exercises best for the improvement of your golf swing. I think you now realize it is not one exercise, but a group of exercises that incorporate flexibility, balance, endurance, strength, and power. A combination of these exercises is what will enhance your golf swing. Looking for specific exercises? Take a look at our website www.bioforcegolf.com
